Action - Soul Winning Ministries

Soul Winning Ministries was started because as believers we place so much value on the building “the Church”.

So often it is referred to as “Our Church or Our Home or Our Building” The disciples did not build a structure small or “mega sized” No they went out and took the message to the people.

Soon tents, then structures began as people gathered to hear the message, to be fed, to be in fellowship.

But first the message was brought TO THEM.

Street corner evangelizing. Crossing that imaginary line we call our property line, the fence between you and your neighbor. Living and speaking in a Christ like manner. Not hiding our light, our faith, as if it was some secret meant only for us. Or only spoken about on Sundays at “Our Church in Our Building.”

Our Christian religion is an action religion.

Jesus was sent, He walked, He talked, He taught, He healed, He knelt, He prayed, He suffered, He died, He conquered death, He rose again, He sits at the right hand of the Father, and He is coming again to rule and reign forever.

All actions. Our faith is an action religion and we must be busy doing the Lord’s will.

Serving Self

Serving Self - Soul Winning Ministries

Serving Self, Ends in Fruitless Death

This world is full of evil, darkness, temptations, satan’s lies and countless lost and enslaved people. It is a waste to engage it. Because it can never ‘rest my soul’.”

Words of a man, but words that ring true. Though it may seem to be great words of some long ago learned scholar, they are words of a 21st century man who seeks to follow his Savior by giving up self to serve our Lord.

“…. we pursue in vain diligence, self. This great error and it’s consequences confirm that at best the self life is a distraction from the sacred trust given to all believers. It provides NO safety from the world and self-mindedness . . . which ends in fruitless death.”

We have but one direction to go, one focus, one desire to give. Giving it to any part of the world or surrendering unto self will indeed do us no good, it will not help but hinder, it is fruitless.

“The master has warned us and desires us to fully lose self, as well as the enjoyments and pursuits offered by the world. He bids us instead, to live totally under His delivering yoke, in service to and teaching from Him. In sanctification and in (the only) safety, in love, faith and trust.”

Philipians 3:18,19

(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)”

The verses following add even more to the message.

What is it that this message and the Bible is speaking of?

It is to be all about Christ. He and He alone is who we should be serving and looking to for every moments guidance, not relishing in anything the world has to offer or relying on anything we can give or do for ourselves.

The man who shared with me his thoughts on this subject understands and strives daily not only to be a servant to Christ, a servant for Christ, thereby a servant to those who do not know Christ, but also by being a servant to those who serve Christ.

When was the last time you took it upon yourself after your prayer and daily Bible studies to go and mow your pastors lawn, freeing him up to spend more time with his family or more time spent in prayer and study? When was the last time you mowed the lawn or did some other chore, for a pastor of a church you don’t attend so he could spend time in visitaion with the sick or elderly of his congregation?

When was the last time you went with a faithful servant of Christ to stand on the street corner and pass out tracts to the multitude of lost souls that commute daily in your town? The evil that lurks on every corner is ever present and perhaps that street preacher could use an extra set of eyes to watch or perhaps he could just use your prayers as you stand beside him as he tells others of sin and salvation, the redemption available through Jesus Christ.

1Peter 5:8

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

There is violence and evil in this world and while you sit comfortably by in your recliner chair, feeding your stomach, in your warm house where you have heaped upon yourself the vain glory of all you have, there is someone out there who, perhaps, standing in the wind and rain is sharing the Gospel, while giving up self-mindedness, to witness to those that many would not talk to out of fear for self.

Go with them brother and sister, go with them, give up on the worldliness of now and of self. Exchange it some day for a crown.

“To follow the Word of God in a direction contrary to nature and because of what God has spoken, is the walk of Faith.” Philip Mauro 1912

Food for Thought

Food for Thought - Soul Winning Ministries

As a baby everything is new to us. We are taught to walk, talk, feed ourselves, read, write and much more. We are vulnerable and helpless on our own at that stage. As we grow we develop insights and desires. Curiosity leads us to discover what we need as well as what we desire for ourselves.

We start out in kindergarten, move on to first grade and advance from there until we graduate from high school. At that time hopefully, we have plans to move on by attending college or trade school maybe even a employer provided training for our new job or career.

We grow up, we learn more things, we develop, we advance our knowledge. Our taste in food, our ideas, our desire for companionship grows. We develop our belief system based on our learning and our search for more knowledge. Basic growth throughout our lifetime.

So . . . why isn’t church like that?

If you accepted, through Faith that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and our eternal salvation rests in that promise, while in church, you went into that service a baby. Unknowing of what lay ahead or how to get to where you need to be, spiritually. The Pastor is the shepard of that church and through his teachings and the programs laid out in that church you begin to grow and learn, developing spiritually.

Where is kindergarten or first grade churches?

Most ‘faithful’ attendees of church who have been there for any length of time had at one time accepted what was being taught in that denomination and have not moved from that denomination since. But the first time visitor (new christian) is still a baby, still in the learning stage. Yet they have been put in grade twelve with the graduating class. Unprepared for the real world and the battles with the enemy.

The new in Christ have not learned the basics, for lack of a better word, the fundamentals or the foundation upon which their faith will be built and grow. They can barely drink milk yet they are in amoung the meat eaters. I know that sounds dramatic in tone since most denominations and churches have watered down the Gospel so it is nothing more than skim milk at best.

There are foundational churches, fundamental churches that teach and grow the new Christian, but they are few, very few and far between.

Someone said to me recently that if we had church for new Christians we would not need denominations. While I can agree with that on some level, the most important lesson from that statement is if the churches today were teaching the true gospel no one would need more. Yet most church goers find a church that ‘fits’ them. They agree with the basics being taught and tend to gloss over the deep teachings. The expanding messages that reach into further purpose and reason of the Gospel.

Basics need to be taught, preached and preached again until all understand it is the will of God that you give of yourself in service to Christ until you are spent. All for Him. It is not about us, it is about Him. God’s currency is souls, why are you not doing all you can do to increase the Kingdom of God?

Do you remember when you became a member of a church? Did the Pastor or elder sit you down and show you a sheet of paper that told you what the church believed along with the corresponding verses? Did they ask if you agreed with these beliefs? Did you nod your head in agreement? Was it traditions or doctrine you agreed to?

Instead of agreeing to what they told you what if you had to provide a sheet or two of paper that you wrote that listed your doctrine and a few verses that went along with what you believe? The church could then decide whether or not you believed their way. What if you passed that test only to become an associate member, with the only way to become a full member being that you had to take and pass an evangelism soul winning course?

Could you pass that membership course?

Praise God that His gift of salvation, of eternal life is free. No courses need to be taken, no exam passed, no proving yourself.

HOWEVER . . .

The Word of God tells us to do more than take that gift and do nothing. Just as many take their church memebership and do nothing. They gloss over the stuff they are reluctant to learn and accept on someone elses word what their doctrine should be.

2Timothy 2:15 states, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

This is a circular verse, it has a question at the end, What is the truth? It has the answer at the beginning, Study.

A Christian will grow in any environment, whether it is first grade or graduate school if . . . they study to show themselves approved unto God. They become workers for Christ and the Kingdom of God. They boldly stand up, unafraid, unashamed for their beliefs. Beliefs based on sound doctrine they determined for themselves by . . . studying the Word of God. Through hours of prayer seeking His Will, His desire for you. Seeking His help and guidance.

Tradition is not doctrine. Just because someone tells you something, doesn’t means it’s the truth. Only the Word of God is true.

Urgency and Consistency

Urgency & Consistency - Soul Winning Ministries

It was said of C. H. Spurgeon by one of his enemies; “Here is a man who has not moved an inch forward in all his ministry. At the close of the nineteenth century he is teaching the theology of the first century and proclaiming doctrine current in Nazareth and Jerusalem as in the first century!” Spurgeon considered it his greatest compliment.

Many Churches of this century are preaching and teaching outside the scope of the word. Trying everything to draw a crowd except the simple, straightforward, everlasting word of God.

Words like wrong doing have replaced the word sin. Away from God’s blessings replace the destination of Hell. They seek the unchurched hoping to church them. Instead of seeking the lost, unsaved sinner to bring them to Christ, getting them saved. Church does NOT save, only faith in Jesus Christ saves the lost from the torment of Hell.

Oh, you can get them in “church”, but the appeal will not be there for the unsaved. They may come from time to time, but if “church” is anything like what it should be, the appeal will not be there for the unsaved.

So churches today have instituted a program of the best looking lobby, complete with signs that direct to daycare and restrooms. Greeters are more apt to show a visitor where they can get the freshest roasted coffee and a full size donut. (both purchased from nationally known brand names)

Instead of ushering them down the sanctuary isle to the best seating, the elderly closest to the pulpit to aid in their ability to hear the message, the greeters hand out contact cards. Cards emblazoned with instructions concerning free gifts for those who tithe, membership benefits, money raising efforts for new brooms to keep the parking lot swept clean. And of course if you wish to accept Jesus “fill out this card and someone will contact you this week about your decision”.

Altar calls have gone away. Many, who when in need, went to a Baptist church or Chaplain knowing that there was always an altar call at that denomination. Though we are not promoting one denomination over another or pointing at the failure of one denomination of another it should be noted that certain denominations had growth when they preached the Word, true growth, not fad or fancy. When the Gospel was watered down, the growth changed to ‘attendance numbers’ not statements of faith.

The need to have visitors fill out a survey for a free gift, voiding them the opportunity to ask questions, ask for prayer because that means your greeters would need to know how to actually tell someone about sin and salvation and the eternal promise available through Christ.

Do these churches even have a soul winning class? Do they preach soul winning? Are any of their members out in the community, door to door or on the street corner? Is the message reaching anyone?
“He that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30
Beyond the fact that the church has a popcorn movie night or the freshest donuts or nicest exterior? Has the word church or the cross been removed from the signs outside? Do you call your church something that really doesn’t convey your faith or your beliefs?
“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed,” Mark 8:38

Big screen TV’s are a needed adavntage for an aging congregation, but were they paid for while short changing the food pantry or the purchase of gospel tracts? What is the cost for the lastest technology? There are lost souls at stake and God’s currency is souls.

Todays church is still chasing fads, gimmicks and trends while true men of God speak with words given them by the Holy Spirit, preaching that same message that formed the early church, Christ crucified, salvation through shed blood, truth.

The hippies of the 60’s had rock and roll, so some churches in an effort to appeal to the unwashed and unsaved adopted modern rock music. When the stoners and free love artists of that generation began hanging out in coffee shops and cafes there was a push to be like them to reach them.

Nothing is left of those endeavors except the new age happy church message. The mellow efforts led to many a lost opportunity to reach a lost generation. Biblical principals were violated, pushed aside to make way for “God is love and only love”. No law and grace, no sin and repentance, no faith and no understanding of what sin is and how it will destroy. Just a good joke and some gimmicks, no amen moments when the preacher tells of a lost sheep returning to the fold.

But yet the power of the Holy Spirit of God can and does bring in those who are lost, to where the unsaved can find the word being preached, with microphone and without. With fancy graphics and those where the hymnal is still used and well worn. Where every seat has a KJV bible in front of it and pencils to take notes on the Sunday bulletin.

Those places where me, myself and I is first and foremost also have the lost in attendance. Led there by the enemy and the lack of prayer.

Churches that are on fire for God and the things of God have deacons, ushers, Sunday school teachers, members and non-members who have worn out their knees and many a box of tissue praying for those they know and those they no nothing of who are lost. That they would find a shelter in the Rock. The Church built on the Rock, not on the sands of self.

This article extols the old time way of doing things, not the slick modern way. But Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 His message does not change with the time or with technology.

It’s time so called churches got back to preaching the truth not some shiny gimmick the staff learned from some seminar. The easy method of the world and flesh will fail.

Those in God fearing, Bible believing, faithful Christ following Churches need to pray for the state of modern churches today that they find their way to preaching the Word, no matter what the world wants. Preach what God wants. That no one should perish. Keep following God’s plan.

He who is a stranger to prayer will also be a stranger to God’s power.

Anguished

Anguished - Soul Winning Ministries

Anguished, not Angry

Galatians 5:7

. . . who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth?”

Let me start off by saying that not all of today’s preachers fall into the ‘group’ that I am concerned about, but one must admit that many have lost sight of what it is to be a man of God, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

Recently I have become deeply concerned by Pastors saying things like the following;

There is not much difference between heaven and hell”  This preached from the pulpit.

I challenge this congregation to give up sex with their ‘partner’ for Lent”  Preached from the pulpit and sent out on radio and internet. They are after all very inclusive of all religions.

Even those religions that are not Christian? Even religions that worship idols? Even religions who believe in works for salvation instead of the Gospel of salvation by faith?

Let us pray for our fellow pastor’s family, for their comfort as they tend to his needs after this stroke”  Said to a group of pastors at a seminar. What about praying for a healing or at minimum pray for the comfort of the pastor who had this devastating diagnosis for long term.

That’s right, a group (14) pastors, some with Doctorates in Theology, all but two the leaders of Churches, Shepards to congregations, Counselors to many sick and elderly.

A televangelist proudly and boldly announced that “we should all pray for a certain missionaries elderly mother who was at home waiting to die” The elderly God fearing, Bible believing woman was watching the message that day. Imagine her surprise to learn she was waiting to die?

Oh what a testament, a pronouncement of faith, a proclomation that God is our Physician it would have been to announce from the pulpit that all who were watching to bow their heads in prayer as the televangelist prayed for renewed strength, for improved health, for the Holy Spirit to visit upon the woman the healing power of THE Almighty God in her time of need.

Has preaching become a profession? A profession like politics where you cater to your tithe givers so you can keep your job? Gotta keep the retirement funds intact.

No thank you.

There is not a single elder or church member who will stand in judgement of anyone on the day of Judgment. Only a just and Holy God, who will pronounce sentence or crowns of glory to each and everyone of us. Only a God who sees righteousness will determine my eternity. Not someone who pays my salary, or decides what I preach, when I preach it.

Church in America has been worn away by the sinful world.

Leave one bad potatoe in the sack and soon all the potatoes in that sack have gone bad all because that one had not been handled properly.

One drop of deadly poison in a glass of water is all it takes to harm and even destroy.

Galatians 5:9
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump”

These Pastors like to preach about the leaven, they like to talk about the inerrant Word of God but they don’t stick to it’s truth or authority. They gloss over it, use the Greek or Hebrew root words but shy away from the real substance. They like to ‘adjust’ themselves and the meaning to fit the circumstances.

They stand for the standards of the old Gospel hymns, then allow a little contemporary music to slide in. Not offending but allowing, until it has crept in and becomes the standard.

Seminars that teach the latest in ‘congregation building’, best coffee and donuts, best free gifts, best self-help books to read . . . . . Best for who?

Let the world slip in just a little and even the strongest pastorate can become a people pleasing career. A poisoned doctrine can become ‘our tradition’ then our tradition is our doctrine. Not the Truth not the Word of God. We are to bend to God’s Word. He does NOT bend His Word to our whim. How can we say He is the same yesterday, today and forever if we are attempting to change His Word?

His Word can change our life, our family, our community our back sliden nation.

It is said that 200 years ago 25% of everyone on earth was a evangelical Christian.

Eighty years ago that number was around 15%.

Today that number is below 6%.

The next generation may not even know the name of Jesus. It won’t be part of their vocabulary.

Why? Because those who should know better, you and me, have let weak men stand at the pulpit and tell us their thoughts on God, unable or unwilling to stand behind the Bible, rightly dividing the word of Truth.

Heard a man who claimed he was an ordained minister preach a watered down sermon. I knew it was going to be watered down from the moment he set foot at the pulpit. As he stepped up he laid his Bible on the floor and stepped into the spotlights and color changing disco lights to recite his message, never once pausing to let the congregation search the verses he spouted, barely pausing to catch his breath.

Most in the crowd accepted it, because after all, he was their fishing buddy, the one who paid for the disco lights, the guy who had the firmest handshake. The elders who let him preach, the deacons who thought it was a good idea, those who knew better, they will have to answer to God for their decision, as will the man who claimed he was ordained, assuring those who asked that he was there to do a job that most didn’t want.

Some are evangelist are prepared to be anything to anybody as long as they get somebody to the altar for something.” L. Ravenhill

It is said that 1500 pastors leave the pulpit in America each year. Are they tired? Have they given up because the message doesn’t fill the pews the way it used to? Have they realised the need for the Truth to be preached from every pulpit, every highway and alley-way, from every street corner and they don’t have it in themselves to stay and fight.

Has the new standard for gospel hymns been rewritten?
Onward Christian soldiers marching as to war,
With the Truth of the Gospel,
Laying on the floor.

My heart aches as it has never before, my desire that all hear the Gospel and come to repentance is now being torn apart further by the pain of seeing Church become an experience that costs nothing, does nothing and is worth nothing.

The message in Churches today is not of God. Turn to God, turn to your Bible, determine your doctrine based on the Word. Not on the words of those preachers who have become watered down examples of what led them to preach in the first place. Not to some self-help book with the photo of some author who knows what you need in your life.

What they are selling will cost you more than the price of this weeks gotta have glossy book, or the time spent listening to a recited sermon from a filing cabinet drawer in a seldom used office, filled with divinity books and plaques on the walls.

If the Holy Spirit has stirred in you about this message. Whether you are a pastor who is struggling or a congregation member who knows the Truth is not being preached, now is the time to kneel in prayer, seek God’s direction, find the answer in His Word. Stand up, march forward, don’t go into war with the cross of Jesus, home behind your door. Say something, do something. Answer to God not man.

Lift up those pastors who preach the Word in season and out. Support them with prayer, if possible support them with tithe. Support their needs as they support your needs by faithfully, truthfully and boldly preaching the Word. Law and Grace. Heaven and hell. Good vs. evil. Christ crucified, Christ resurrected, the Blood Atonement, Salvation freely given.

Until His return.

Old Time Religion

Old Time Religion - Soul Winning Ministries

Old Time Religion or just Old Fashioned?

Visited a church that I had never been into before this last Sunday, it was an eye opener to say the least.

I commented on the experience to someone I know, her response, she called me ‘old fashioned’, what did she mean by that?

The preacher spoke on Exodus 20:12

Honor thy father and mother; that thy days be long upon the land which the Lord thy GOD giveth thee.”

It was a finely presented counseling session about breaking the cycle of disrespect in generation after generation but . . .

My question was what happens if I don’t honor and respect my father and mother?

There was no consequences for failing GOD’s commandment. No talk of Hell, of GOD’s wrath. No talk of GOD’s grace, Christ’s suffering, the cross or His blood that washes us clean. No talk of Judgment Day.

They will never accept Grace. Until they tremble before a just and holy Law.” C.H. Spurgeon

I enjoyed Old Time Religion when a preacher spoke and shouted the Word of GOD without worry of offending. Political correctness has taken the zeal, the message, perhaps the faith, right out of church.

These days churches break apart over the color of the carpet, the type of music, naming the church something that ‘fits’ into the community while sounding ‘all inclusive’. My definition of an all inclusive church, saved by grace and lost souls for there is none other. You fit into one or the other. PERIOD.

Not ALL, but the vast majority of the denominations have lost their zeal. Praise the Lord that there are still ‘remnants’ of those on fire for the Lord. I am not picking out any one particular denomination. All are busy about church business, few are busy about the business of THE Church.

The Business of the Church is Salvation of Souls

The above statement was true, is true, will always be true, no matter what you have been told or what you have experienced.

Has church in America today become a competition to see who has the best coffee and donuts, the loudest music, the ‘best time’, so that they have forgotten, forgotten the One who died and rose again?

The chief danger of the 20th century will be religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without GOD and heaven without hell.” William Booth

Romans 3:10-18 tells us;

As it is written. There is none righteous, no, not one. . . . . . .(v18) “There is no fear of GOD before their eyes.”

Paul went on to describe the law and being justified by His grace through Jesus Christ. The law and the results of breaking the law was clear. The Bible speaks throughout of the wrath and love of GOD. Both Old and New Testament state it clearly. Has the American church of today reached the point where the preacher has no fear of GOD before his eyes?

Scratching people where they itch and addressing their ‘felt needs’ is a stratagem of the poor steward of the oracles of GOD. This was the recipe for success for the false prophets of the Old Testament.”
R.C. Sproul

II Timothy 4:3,4

For a time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

Enduring sound doctrine does not mean that men of God have to come up with a gimmick to preach, to draw in the lost with incentives like gifts if you pay your tithe, or the best cup-of-joe at any church in town.

The gospel, the Word of GOD, the Truth remains the same, so does the sinful ways of man. We need men of God able to preach the Word, not put on a show. The Apostles of the early church had no gimmicks, no disco lights, no sound mixer, no small groups coordinators. They had large and small groups of sinners giving their lives to Christ. Not for one minute should we ever think that the Apostles coddled and promoted anything that wasn’t the true Word of GOD.

Some evangelists (preachers) are prepared to be anything to anybody as long as they get somebody to the altar for something” L. Ravenhill

The message last Sunday was correct in that we are to honor our parents, but it desperately stopped short of calling it sin, and missed the mark as far as repentance and judgment are concerned.

There was no altar call. They left right at the stroke of noon as if reservations were in urgent need of being kept at the local restaurant. All their faces smiling as if there was no regret, no hint of guilt by what the pastor had spoken. No fear of pending wrath at the hand of GOD. Dry eyes one and all. No one still kneeling and weeping at the altar. The pastor and associate pastor nowhere insight.

Okay, call me old fashioned, I was after all the only person there in a suit and tie including the pastor who was casual cool in his attire. Gone are the days of respect. Where are the men of God who wear a dark suit, a white shirt and a tie that is of a color that doesn’t hint of feminism? Called of GOD, carrying a well read, worn out, dogged eared, well ‘thumped’ King James Bible or even a Scofield.

Gone are the days when bars would close up because the patrons had all been convicted by an evangelist on fire for GOD, who spoke it plain, spoke it boldly, who believed every word that the Holy Spirit dictated to come from his mouth. Gone is the conviction, because there is no consequence preached in most churches today. Replaced by connection cards, follow us on facebook, be sure to like us, be a member, get a gift for giving, listen to us on our podcast or get our app, we only need 1,000 more followers on youtube to reach our goal.

Heavenly Father, Creator. You are the One who holds my next breath, my next heartbeat in your hand. I repent of my anger towards these ministers who know not of Your Law and Grace. I thank you for the discernment You have given me to see the false teaching. Thank you for not letting me be lured away through the false hopes preached in churches today. I thank you Heavenly Father that I can remain strong in my faith, secure in Your Son.
I ask that the fear of Your wrath fall upon these churches, these ministers who are falsely leading people down a path that is all goodness and love to their eternal damnation. Wide is the path that leads to their destruction. Send to them the Word through a Spirit filled man of God that will awaken them and show them the straight and narrow path that leads to You through Your Son Jesus Christ. Open the doors for me and others to speak out and not be silent in our anguish for the lost. I pray this in the name of my Savior who suffered and died for me. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

Doctrine or Tradition

Doctrine or Tradition - Soul Winning Ministries

Recently I took an informal survey of some of the eleven churches in the town where I live. With a population of around 2500 plus another 5000 in motels, hotels and RV parks during the summer this town has a need for churches. This town has no ‘mega’ churches just the typical 50 to 200 seat capacity churches found anywhere in small town USA. So why aren’t they full or over 50% capacity?

I decided to ask a few people I know who can be best described as ‘church hoppers’, those who are in search of the truth from the pulpit.

They described each of the churches they had tried, what they liked and what that church lacked. I surveyed them separately so as not to influence any words or descriptions. Here is what I found. They used basically the same words as each other to describe individual churches.

“Repeated sermons, chaos during the service, great worship service, but too much like a concert, there was that ‘scandal’, no leadership, always changing pastors, he only preaches a happy message, no hard truth.”

I also asked the group why they attended a church for a few months then moved on, I received three distinct responses “they started preaching the truth and people became uncomfortable and then the church changed” or “the church was not life giving, there is no unity” or finally “they are in the business of church not the ministry of church”

And there it was, even with all of the minor problems that could be overcome the real reason, No Truth being preached from the pulpit, congregations being coddled.

Was it also a doctrinal position or perhaps a desire for more than a sermon from a filing cabinet that the minister pulled out to ‘fit’ the occasion. Pastor burnout could be a definite possibility, after years of preaching a man can become tired, I understand that.

After contemplating the answers I received I decided to survey those I knew who proclaimed to be Christians yet attended no church.

The same answer was given by everyone who was honest with me, “those people are hypocrites, I will never go back to that church”

When I asked why not try another church the answer was split, “they are all the same” or “not my denomination or doctrine”

I recently read a survey that stated, “seventy percent of all church goers (not just christians) in the United Kingdom who had stopped attending would NEVER go back not even for a wedding or a funeral”

Incredible as that seems that same sentiment is here in the Churches in the USA.

Why? II Timothy 4:2-5 describes the day in which the Body finds itself in today.

V3) …”for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine: but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

This does not just apply to church goers but church leaders. Church leaders set themselves up kingdoms, not all, but in general. Fewer churches are growing because of fruits and more are growing in relation to their catering to what the crowd wants to hear.

Seems many see church as a whole, as small groups and not as the body of Christ. Where is the unity, where is the gathering together for fellowship, where are the ‘Christian Soldiers marching as to war’?

In this town, which is typical America, there are eleven small groups called churches. There are leaders and members of churches in this town who won’t attend a simple non-denominational prayer for the community, because “it isn’t being held inside ‘our’ church”

Many are afraid to gather together, to overcome their differences and understand there should be no difference if you believe that Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, free of sin, suffered and died for our sins, rose from the grave defeating death and sits at the right hand of the Father.

So if we, as sinners, confess with our mouth and believe with all our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, then we shall be saved. (Romans 10:9-13)

Beyond that simple promise it is all doctrine. It is not the Baptist way, the Assembly way, the Methodist, Lutheran way, ETC. it is His way. We are to conform to the Word, not the Word conforming to us, it has never and will never change. Yet Christianity today has become faith only in what we feel comfortable with. Our ‘Harmless Customs’ as described by the early church have been far too long accepted and the division grows wider.

You and you alone are responsible for you and you alone. In other words, we are told in
II Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”

Show yourself . . . .

Approved unto . . . .

Rightly dividing the word of . . . .

What is the truth? The truth is the Word of God. Period. Now how you understand that word is up to you. The Father knows what is in your heart, He knows your level of understanding, but how long do you think He can abide your foolishness, your lack of study, your lack of searching for more of Him?

Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; . . . .”

Doctrine separates us. But doctrine is what we base our belief system on. Why do we want to risk our entire belief of what Christ wants from us on a ‘tradition’ that we have grown up with, what somebody else has told us and not base it on study and prayer. In communication with the Giver of Eternal Life, the One who paid the price, a personal one on one relationship with our Savior?

I’m not saying to disregard your Pastors preaching, I’m saying study the verses he is giving you, understand them fully, do your own study. Pray for guidance, ask questions. There is not a Pastor worth his calling that will refuse your fervent searching for truth and not make himself or a learned church staff member available to guide you.

The price for our salvation was paid for us and once we understand that we are sinners, unable to earn or buy our everlasting place with the Father, that it can only be attained though Jesus Christ and our confession of faith in Him, then we can begin our walk, our communication, our joy and our understanding of what ‘our’ personal doctrinal faith is.

If it must be given a name, a denominational name, call it . . .
My Faith, My Doctrine, My Belief. A personal walk with Christ is just that, yours and yours alone.
